Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship (ASES)

Plancher Shoulder & Elbow Surgery Fellowship Program is a patient-centric mentorship model that provides a unique learning environment with rotations in New York City/Connecticut as well as travel to New Jersey to maximize perspectives in the management of shoulder and elbow surgery. This high-volume shoulder and elbow reconstructive fellowship has had an average case volume of over 665 cases. This 1-year fellowship participates with the ASES SF Match.

Operative experience includes a wide range of open, arthroscopic, and complex shoulder and elbow procedures. The fellow will be exposed to a spectrum of shoulder and elbow disorders and interventions that include shoulder arthroplasty, reverse shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic Bankart repair, open and arthroscopic Latarjet, open revision stabilization procedures, primary and revision arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, ligament and tendon transfer and reconstruction, nerve releases, and fracture management. The fellow will participate in weekly clinics in a mentorship model to provide them with opportunities to refine their clinical decision-making skills as well as to follow patients throughout their entire episode of care. These clinic experiences will also expose them to the business aspects of medicine with emphasis on documentation, coding, billing, and ancillary services.

Fellows will also have full access to a state-of-the art, 8-station Bio Skills Cadaver Lab for further opportunities in surgical skills development. The fellow is required to participate in clinical research and will have an opportunity to work with two PhDs to help produce peer review accepted publications each year. Fellows are required to attend 3-hour weekly educational conferences including grand rounds, M&M, as well as the annual ACCME-accredited Orthopaedic Summit conference and an American Shoulder and Elbow Surgery course arranged and approved by the fellowship director. This intensive learning experience will lead to an independent shoulder and elbow surgeon in an exciting 12-month learning experience.
