Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Board of Specialty Societies Attends Annual Meeting

Kevin D. Plancher, MD, MPH, FAAOS, named chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Board of Specialty Societies

ROSEMONT, Ill. (March 15, 2021)—New York City orthopaedic surgeon, Kevin D. Plancher, MD, MPH, MS, FACS, FAAOS, was named chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) Board of Specialty Societies (BOS).

The BOS brings together the leaders of the 23 musculoskeletal societies to address advocacy, continuing medical education, research, and membership, residency, and fellowship issues. It also serves as an advisory body to the AAOS Board of Directors and promotes unity and collaboration between specialty societies and the Academy.

Dr. Plancher is a Clinical Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and an assistant adjunct clinical professor at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. He is the fellowship director and designated institutional official for an ACGME-accredited sports medicine fellowship.

Dr. Plancher earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biochemistry from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., and a master’s degree in science in physiology and doctorate in medicine from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Plancher completed his residency at Harvard University’s Combined Orthopaedic program. He completed two post-graduate fellowships, one in hand and microvascular surgery at The Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis and the other in sports medicine and reconstruction of the shoulder and knee at The Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo. Most recently, Dr. Plancher completed his MPH at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York.

Dr. Plancher has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and co-edited textbooks. As an active member and leader of AAOS, he has served as chair of the Orthopaedic Video Theatre Committee and served as a member of the Association’s CME Course Committee, Orthopaedic Political Action Committee, the Advocacy Council, and the Research and Quality Council among many other AAOS volunteer positions. He has sat as a member of the AAOS’ Board of Directors since 2019.
