Kevin D. Plancher’s, MD, MPH, FAAOS recently attended the Magellan Society 2022 in Tabernash, Colorado followed by the 50th Annual AOSSM Meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Magellan Society is an International Society that brings together as members the Traveling Fellows and the guiding Godparents who were pre-selected by their parent Sports Medicine Societies of North America (AOSSM), Europe (ESSKA), the Pacific Region (APOA), and South America (SLARD) for carefully planned tours of the other regions’ major sports medicine centers. The traveling fellowship program is an annual scientific and cultural exchange among orthopaedic sports medicine physicians in North America, Europe, the Pacific Rim, and South America. The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s (AOSSM) mission is to be the premier global, sports medicine organization representing the interests of orthopaedic surgeons and other professionals who provide comprehensive health services for the care of athletes and active people of all ages and abilities.
While in attendance Dr. Plancher presented, “Repairing Lateral Meniscus Tears in Patients with ACLR Ensures Low Rate of OA Compared to Lateral Meniscectomy” at the Magellan Society meeting. Dr. Plancher also presented the course, “The Business of Medicine: Hospital-Based, Academic, Private Practice–Learning How To Succeed.” The purpose of this course was to give physicians a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of medicine from health insurance and coding to marketing and enhancing your visibility to compete in the current healthcare marketplace with a sports medicine practice. This included caring of patients with COVID-19, tricks for telemedicine to succeed, and maintaining income.
